If you have a musculoskeletal condition affecting your muscles, joints or bones, there are lots of things you can do to manage your pain or condition yourself. www.hillingdonmsk.com has a collection of some of the best advice and information sheets. Please have a look here first before seeking further help.
Tried the self-help website but still need help?
If you do require further help after you have visited the www.hillingdonmsk.com site, you can request an appointment through your GP practice to see one of our First Contact Practitioners (FCPs). These are skilled healthcare professionals who specialise in these conditions that can undertake specialist assessment and provide appropriate advice and establish a management plan that is appropriate for you. If your practice does not have an FCP a GP will see you for this assessment.
Following the appointment with the FCP/GP you may be referred to musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy. Physiotherapy will usually be provided at the nearest Physiotherapy site to your GP practice.
A physiotherapist will build on the questions asked by your FCP/GP to progress the assessment and devise a treatment and management plan for you. This is likely to involve prescribing appropriate exercises to help alleviate your condition.
In some instances, your FCP/GP or physiotherapist may recommend further investigation and assessment. They may choose to make a referral to the Musculoskeletal Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service (MSK CATS). Within this appointment you may see an Extended Scope Practitioner (ESP) or an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) who has advanced MSK skills in order to assess and diagnose MSK conditions and help continue to build on your specific management plan.
