How to request for repeat prescription

What are repeat prescriptions?

A repeat prescription allows you to get your regular medication without having to see your doctor each time.

Repeat prescriptions can be requested through the Electronic Prescribing Service (EPS)- To use the above service you need to register for our Patient Online Access, for more information please visit: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/gps/online-health-and-prescription-services.

Written requests can be made and placed in our repeat prescription box outside the surgery but it is hoped that more patients will opt to register to use or Patient Online Services which is available 24/7. Please note prescriptions requests should be made directly by the patient and not requested by the pharmacy.

Patients are requested to allow two working days for the requested prescriptions to be processed and issued.

Collection of prescriptions

Practices are no longer issuing the usual Green prescriptions to be picked up from the practice. All prescriptions are sent to chemists electronically through the Electronic Prescribing Service. Patients can now collect their prescriptions from any pharmacy using their NHS numbers.

Reviews

Regular reviews are required to enable clinicians to issue your repeat prescriptions. Part of this review may require a blood or urine test depending on your medication.

If a patient has not had the required review, the GP may issue you a short supply of medication to tie the patient over until the appropriate test has been taken and results of the test have been received.

The Practice considers the clinical management of a Patient’s health and medical condition, and the prescribing of medication as a JOINT partnership. In that, it is expected that request given to Patients to have a test for the purpose of a review is treated with importance and urgency. NOT having the required test is not ACCEPTABLE.

Patients MUST NOTE:

GPs have a duty to review patients periodically if required, for conditions for which they receive repeat medication;
GPs have clinical responsibilities to ensure that medications given to patients are effective;
GPs require the results of the test to enable them to process the requested prescription
